Information for Students Receiving Federal Stafford Loans
Federal Stafford Loans are received from College Foundation Inc. (CFI), and applied to your outstanding account balance at UNC Charlotte. Any amounts over the outstanding charges on your account will be refunded to the student.
You can have your excess financial aid refunded to you in the form of a direct deposit. Please see the following web site for information on this process. http://www.uncc.edu/finance/StudentInfo.htm. Once at this site please click on Direct Deposit Information and Form.
Federally awarded financial aid cannot be applied to your student account until ten days prior to the beginning of the semester. Fall semester bills you receive in July and August, and spring semester bills you receive in November and December, will not show the amount of your Federal Stafford Loan.
If you are receiving a Federal Stafford Loan and have received an award letter you may deduct the amount of your award from the amount due on your bill and remit the difference. If you do not have your award letter available, you can verify the amount of your award on 49er Express, My Records, Financial Aid Self-Service, click on Personal Financial Aid Information, and then click on Award Information by Year.
If your award includes a Parent PLUS Loan, the process will be slightly different. One difference is to who the refund is made payable. When completing the Parent Plus Loan application the parent may designate any refunds be made payable to either the parent or the student. When refunds are prepared, the UNC Charlotte Student Account’s Office makes the refund payable to the party designated on the Parent Plus Loan application.
