UNC Charlotte is a publicly supported institution. Tuition payments and other required student fees meet only a part of the total cost of the education of students enrolled. On the average, for each full-time student in an institution of the University of North Carolina, the State of North Carolina appropriates $9,980 per year in public funds to support the educational programs offered.

Tuition Waivers: Senior Citizens. Residents of North Carolina who have attained the age of 65 and who meet applicable admission standards may enroll tuition free on a space available basis. Senior citizens are obligated to pay any special fees or service charges that are assessed all students. Interested persons should contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

Certain programs that are not supported by state funds follow different tuition regulations, and the tuition waiver for residents over the age of 65 does not apply to these programs. Examples of programs that set their own costs for which the senior citizen tuition waiver does not apply include Education Abroad, some non-credit courses, and other specialized programs.

The University reserves the right, with the approval of the appropriate authorities, to make changes in tuition and/or fees at any time.

NOTE: Beginning with the Fall 2006 semester, post baccalaureate students will pay tuition and fees at the graduate rate for all courses, regardless of the level of courses in which they are enrolled.
